Challenge
The map was created as one of twelve thematic wall charts for schools – alongside boards for history, biology and geography. It was meant to serve teachers as a teaching aid and students as a point of reference during lessons.
- content in line with the primary school curriculum
- lots of data on a single map: routes, battles, cities, dates
- audience – students
- printing on various surfaces, including very large ones
- a consistent look with the other charts in the series
Assumption
A student familiar with textbook maps should be able to read the chart hanging on the classroom wall without any extra explanation.
Solution
We developed the map based on the curriculum material, then prepared the entire graphic layer and the print-ready files. Instead of inventing a new visual language, we drew on what students already know.
- layout and legend modelled on school textbooks
- clear hierarchy: campaign routes, battles, descriptions
- information presented as an infographic
- the entire project created in vector graphics
- DTP prepared for various print formats
Responsiveness in print
Thanks to vector graphics, the same map works both in a small format and on a large-format board.
